UCT commemorates World Day for Health and Safety at Work
The University of Cape Town (UCT) commemorated World Day for Health and Safety at Work on Thursday, 28 April 2022 by hosting a safety showcase which was put together to equip and empower members of the UCT community around the areas of health and safety in the workplace. The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Division within the Properties & Services Department at UCT, as well as Staff Wellness showcased various OHS emergency and safety services and processes on the plaza outside Sarah Baartman Hall. *This publication and the information in it are not intended to promote any particular service provider. The sole purpose is to highlight and promote World Health and Safety Day.

UCT launches the Community of Hope Vaccination Centre
The University of Cape Town (UCT) launched the Community of Hope Vaccination Centre at its Forest Hill residence on 30 August 2021. The centre will serve the university staff and students and the broader public as a resource for the Western Cape Department of Health. Those in attendance included Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, UCT Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng, Western Cape MEC for Health, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, and a few UCT staff and students who received their first Covid-19 vaccinations at the site. If you are 18+ years old you need to register on the official South African Covid-19 Vaccination Programme portal, found here: https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/. The UCT Community of Hope Vaccination Centre can be accessed from Broad Road in Mowbray. UCT students return to residences affected by fires
University of Cape Town (UCT) students from Fuller Hall and Smuts Hall residences have returned to campus after a devastating Table Mountain fire affected the Rondebosch campus of UCT on Sunday, 18 April. Nearly 4 000 students had to be evacuated from residences and moved to emergency accommodations around Cape Town.

UCT remembers the Jagger Reading Room
University of Cape Town (UCT) Libraries staff joined their executive director, Ujala Satgoor, outside the Jagger Reading Room for a moment of reflection and to remember the loss suffered after a devastating Table Mountain fire destroyed it on Sunday, 18 April. The fire gutted the roof and destroyed the galleries, adjacent stores and offices, as well as archival and published print collections that were kept there. https://www.news.uct.ac.za/campus/communications/updates/
